While I should have been working...
Here's what I was doing last night when I should have been working. The best book covers I've seen all have people in them, but there's no way I'd be able to work on something that complicated. There's a local artist I might try to commission for something more professional.
Thanks, I'll probably talk to a couple graphic artists anyway, maybe read a couple blogs about what makes for good book covers... I went through all my own serials and they mostly have the main character on the front of the book... If I decide I don't have the money to commission something more professional, this is what I'll use. :)
I like the purples against the black. Adds a lot of tension. I'd probably think suspense or crime novel but perhaps with a romantic undercurrent from the cover.
The last year or so I've been designing some book covers for my friends in my workshop. I don't do hand art but if you need generated character art for your website or some mock ecovers, I'd be glad to help you out. Although I really like your purple cover. :) but if you want people, I can probably help.

Looking at your covers was what gave me the idea to try doing one of my own actually! They're really good.
I'm getting better with practice. I also did a few articles on how to do it yourself if you want links.
But if you just want me to do some people ones, let me know. I like projects. :)
